Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Aerospace & Defence

Marlow Up to £65,000 DOE Benefits

A leading name in aerospace innovation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of complex, high-integrity design projects that support global defence and civil aviation programmes.

This is a technically senior role with real influence. You’ll be responsible for full lifecycle mechanical design, from initial concepts through to final delivery, on a range of mission-critical products used in airborne environments.

The Opportunity

You’ll work on the development of aerospace systems, leading design activity and supporting the wider engineering team. Expect a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your expertise will directly shape high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver detailed mechanical designs using 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
Conduct FEA and CFD simulations to validate performance and structural integrity
Act as Lead Engineer on key projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, and quality
Produce engineering documentation and drawings in line with BS8888 and ISO standards
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drive continuous improvement
Support legacy product upgrades, tooling improvements, and obsolescence managementAbout You

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
8 years’ experience in aerospace or defence engineering
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
Proven track record of delivering mechanical design solutions through the full product lifecycle
Strong understanding of materials, finishes, and environmental factors
Confident using simulation tools (FEA/CFD) to influence and validate designs
Comfortable leading projects and working cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary teamDesirable Experience

Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing techniques
SolidWorks CAD proficiency
