Supply Chain / Purchasing Manager

    Overview:

    EMBS Engineering is working in partnership with an award winning, high profile precision engineering company located in North Nottingham, who specialise in the manufacture of complex, safety critical components for highly regulated industries.

    Due to internal changes and coming off the back of a record breaking year, our client is seeking a Purchasing / Supply Chain Manager to join the company on a permanent basis.

    The primary responsibility will be to lead and develop our clients’ purchasing strategy and supplier management activities, ensuring the delivery of quality products on time and within budget. As part of the senior management team, you will drive innovation, mitigate supply chain risks, and contribute to the overall success of our business.

    As Purchasing Manager, you will oversee the Supply Chain Team, ensuring they are equipped to meet key objectives, adhere to company values, and deliver continuous improvement in line with critical success factors. This role offers the opportunity to shape and optimise our supply chain, leveraging your leadership, strategic insight, and industry expertise.

      Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement purchasing strategies, policies, and procedures to support business objectives and deliver cost savings.

  • Supplier Management: Build and sustain strategic supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure supplier performance meets business needs.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve supply chain operations, ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the Supply Chain Team to ensure high performance, collaboration, and alignment with business goals.

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee all purchasing activities, including cost control, process improvements, and adherence to key performance indicators.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to align supply chain strategies with broader business objectives.

    Successful applicants MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualifications in a commercial or engineering discipline

    • Preferably a Fellow or Member of The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing / engineering, with expertise in procurement, contract management, and supplier relationships.

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a proven ability to develop high-performing teams.

  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commercially astute with experience managing budgets and delivering cost savings.

    • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles and manufacturing processes is desirable.

  • Full UK driving licence

    Knowledge of the mechanical properties of metals would be advantageous.
