A vacancy has arisen for a Nuclear Materials Engineer to join the team based at Raynesway, Derby.

The Core Materials team are responsible for owning and continuously developing our materials knowledge and capability, through testing, and research & development. Interfacing closely with colleagues in the manufacturing and design communities, we are looking for a materials engineer, with experience working with nuclear materials, to support the design and manufacture of the next generation of Rolls-Royce Nuclear Plant.

What you will be doing

The core materials engineer role includes:
Developing materials specifications for new products, materials and special processes.Defining validation and verification requirements for manufacturing processes and equipment.Acting as a consultant to the manufacturing teams on process compliance and non-conformance.

Key Skills and Experience
Degree level qualification in a materials engineering subject.Understanding and appreciation of nuclear materials, including nuclear fuels.Manufacturing processes and their effect on material properties.Experience of applying and creating specifications and standards.Communication skills, including formal report writing.Stakeholder management and working across key dependencies.
Desirable Additional Skills
Appreciation for product safety and experience in safety substantiation.Through-life degradation, such as corrosion and effects of irradiation.Ability to prioritise and take ownership of multiple work packages.Ability to work with agility and deal with emergent work packages.Experience working in a highly regulated industry.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place.
