Metallurgist – Into the Furnace, Under the Microscope

Location: Oxfordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm
Type: Permanent
Salary: £36,000 per annum + Fantastic Benefits Package

What if your next role took you inside one of the UK’s largest independent mechanical testing lab?

A place where aerospace grade metals are stressed, cracked, stretched and studied. Not just to meet spec, but to understand why they behave the way they do.

We’re supporting a world class materials testing facility in Oxfordshire in their search for a seasoned Metallurgist. They work with aerospace primes, OEMs, and high stakes industries to test the limits of nickel based superalloys, titanium, maraging steel, aluminium and more.

You’ll be joining a highly accredited environment where NADCAP and ISO17025 are part of daily life.

What you’ll be doing

Performing metallurgical evaluations on high performance materials

Using techniques such as OES, ICPOES, ICP-MS, corrosion testing, and grain size analysis

Supporting investigations using optical and electron microscopy

Interpreting and documenting findings with accuracy and clarity

Ensuring all activity complies with the standards expected in a mission-critical lab environment

What we’re looking for

A time served Metallurgist with at least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following:

Aerospace OEMs or end users (e.g. Rolls-Royce, Airbus)

Heat treatment, forging, or foundry environments

Commercial laboratories working to NADCAP or equivalent standards

Deep knowledge of aerospace grade materials

A methodical approach and high attention to detail

Strong documentation and reporting skills

Someone curious by nature.  The kind of person who asks why a material behaved the way it did

Why this role matters

This is where materials meet their limits, and someone needs to measure what happens next. The reports you help produce may influence whether a component makes it into an aircraft engine, a power plant, or a high performance system. Your work has real world impact.
