A leading organisation within the UK’s nuclear energy sector is seeking experienced  Mechanical Fitters to join its expanding team in Bridgwater, working on high-profile projects. The company is internationally recognised for providing innovative, high-value engineering solutions for the design, construction, maintenance, and development of nuclear infrastructure.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the installation, strip-out, overhaul, and refurbishment of mechanical equipment. This role requires a solid understanding of mechanical principles, metallurgy, and engineering standards, along with the ability to interpret GA, CAD, and ISO drawings.

Key Responsibilities:

Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings.
Follow established procedures and relevant quality standards, contributing to the preparation and maintenance of quality records and documentation.
Maintain tools and equipment used for assembly, calibration, and fitting tasks.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) Responsibilities:

Do not undertake any task without ensuring appropriate measures are in place to perform the work safely and in full compliance with regulations.
Be fully familiar with and adhere to Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Permits to Work relevant to the tasks at hand.
Attend all required HSE training, meetings, and toolbox talks.
Carry out proper checks to ensure that all tools, equipment, and materials used are safe and meet HSE standards.
Never carry out any work unless it is backed by the appropriate documentation and authorisation.
Report all incidents and near misses in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications:

NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant mechanical discipline (essential)
CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test for Operatives (essential)
CPCS Slinger / Signaller certification (desirable)
City & Guilds Level 2 Medium Risk Confined Space (desirable)
NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Work Supervision (desirable)
Technical Skills:

Solid understanding of mechanical equipment installation methods.
Experience working with both rotating and static equipment.
Skilled in the controlled handling of small components and proficient in torquing techniques.
Experience with mechanical testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning processes.
Ability to interpret and work from detailed technical drawings.
Comfortable working in construction, production, or engineering environments.
Up-to-date knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
Behavioural Skills:

Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Remains calm and professional under pressure.
Possesses a questioning and analytical mindset.
Willing to challenge unsafe or unacceptable behaviours to uphold safety standards.
Please note:
A Safety Critical Medical will be required for this role to cover confined space entry, working at height, and slinger/signaller duties, where applicable
