Lead Structural Analysis Engineer - Our client is at the forefront of innovative Marine engineering, specialising in the design, optimisation, and supply of decarbonisation solutions for the maritime industry.

With their expertise in wing propulsion, foiling and flight control systems, they are leading the sustainability revolution within the maritime and shipping industry. From reducing fuel consumption – measured in tonnes per day – on ocean going ships through their sail technology and advanced efficiency optimisation methods, to enabling the growth of marine electrification with the implementation of their foiling and FOSS solutions.

They are looking for a Lead Structural Analysis Engineer to join the team and be at the forefront of this industry leading technology. You will be leading the structural analysis aspects of major projects as well as supporting the Head of Engineering in overseeing the development of the structures team, to drive the development of innovative processes and tools, and ensure the successful execution of projects.

Additionally, you will be working alongside the Head of Innovation and Engineering Development, in developing new methodologies and toolsets to improve correlation with the physical data from existing components, to support the development of the next generation of products.

Lead Structural Analysis Engineer Role:

  • Derive suitable load cases and targets using first principles and prior experiences as well as customer, legislation and internally developed documentation.

  • Creation, development and running of stress analysis simulations within NX SimCentre, building models from scratch, smartly choose the appropriate analysis techniques and boundary conditions for the problem at hand, balancing speed, accuracy, and ensuring usefulness and appropriateness.

  • Working within an integrated, multi-disciplinary design and development team to support design work and ensure that proposed design solutions meet the required static and dynamic load cases.

  • Providing experience with the physics of system behaviours, load paths, expected structural responses, and potential failure modes.

  • Completing hand calculations for mechanical fixings, inserts and bonded joints.

  • Detailed analysis of simulation results and creation of comprehensive post processing.

  • Supporting correlation activities with input to physical testing, calibration and validation.

  • Technical liaison with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, and internal stakeholder.

  • Work to relevant analysis procedures and record analysis results clearly, either internally or to relevant legislative bodies.

  • Support the Head of Engineering in leading and developing structures team members, planning resource in conjunction with Head of Engineering and Programme Managers .

  • Support the Head of Innovation and Engineering Development to develop new methodologies and toolsets.

  • Extend our analysis capability with your specialism (e.g., Structures, Thermal, Composites, bonded joints, linear and non-linear contact).

  • Design, implement, and optimise engineering workflows, processes, and best practices to enhance efficiency and quality.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of processes and alignment with company goals.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and refine processes to drive continuous improvement and adapt to changing requirements.

  • Identify, develop, and implement tools that streamline engineering tasks, improve productivity, and support technical needs.

  • Evaluate existing tools and technologies, recommending upgrades or alternatives as necessary.

  • Ensure tools are effectively integrated into workflows and provide training and support for team members.

  • Balancing multiple concurrent projects and development work, understand your working priorities and clearly show progress, delivery status, and key risks and issues.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the engineering domain, contributing to high-level problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Participate in technical reviews, ensuring the quality and reliability of engineering outputs.

  • Management of external CAE resource in conjunction with line manager.

    Lead Structural Analysis Engineer Requirements:

    A degree in mechanical, automotive, marine or aerospace engineering.

    Extensive experience of stress simulation, implicit, fatigue, linear and non-linear analysis.

    Experienced in the use of Siemens SimCentre is essential.

    Experience with metallic structures is essential, experience in composite structures would be advantageous.

    A working knowledge of TeamCenter and Siemens NX would be advantageous.

    Experienced in FEM in shell and solid structures.

    Extensive experience with classical hand calculations and creating own calculation sheets.

    Practical experience of physical testing and correlation would be beneficial.

    Experience in developing/mentoring more junior engineers would be desirable.
