The Company

Our client is a leading name in several fields of manufacturing, with a major European and UK presence spanning numerous operational plants. As part of the continued growth of the business they are presently seeking a Supply Chain Manager to lead and improve supply chain operations at their Northamptonshire based site. This is a new role driven by the success and development of the site, offering a real opportunity to make a difference.

The Role

As the Supply Chain Manager managing a small team, you will support the strategic objectives of the business across all sites and is responsible for negotiating Indirect and Direct spend contracts with suppliers. As well as supporting the strategic objectives, the role will provide support to each site’s direct purchasing roles, offering an escalation route for contract dispute or performance problems. There is also an expectation that this role will deliver significant operational cost reductions through innovative savings methods and implementation of processes and systems to assist the team and the business. The role will oversee the production planning operation and site stock control utilising the team to achieve targets and drive improvement.

Responsibilities

The role is primarily split into two sections, purchasing and planning.

An active commitment to continuous improvement in areas of safety, quality, cost, delivery and lead times across both categories is expected. The individual will have close co-ordination with Group Procurement with Category Managers strategically placed to support.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Purchasing

  • Manage suppliers' relationships and their Quality, Cost, Delivery, Service and Sustainability toward reliable and cost-effective supply chain. The main categories are polymers (internal and external suppliers), paper, rubber, textiles, aluminium and Capex. There will be close interaction with Group Procurement for some of the Indirect categories such as energy which are centrally managed.

  • Develop procurement strategies and enhance/execute collaborations with suppliers and company operations.

  • Uses a keen understanding of the industry to know which supplies are most important and where to look for reliable, reasonably priced suppliers.

  • Develop KPIs and prepares reports and communicates with management about offered prices on products.

    Supply Chain

  • Demand forecast and supply and production planning to ensure requirements fulfilled.

  • Supplier management to ensure reliable delivery and replenishment.

  • Approves materials, costs, manufacturing equipment, and the size of workforce needs to manufacture goods.

  • Monitors production and raw material costs.

  • Manage and control Stock holding quantity/value whilst overseeing the warehouse and storage facilities across the sites, ensuring effective utilisation of space, labour and equipment.

  • Manage safety levels and re-order points to guide efficient production planning.

  • Lead stock taking activities and find root cause to eliminate recurring stock inaccuracies through corrective actions.

    Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience within Supply Chain in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience of implementing new procurement policies and improvement processes within a purchasing role

  • Previous experience of managing a team

  • Good understanding of sourcing, supplier management and procurement processes and policies

  • Knowledge of contracts and supply chain compliance and legislation

  • Cohesive understanding of import & export compliance

  • Experience of production planning including the implementation and management of systems

  • Experience of managing outbound logistics including warehouse and transport management.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

  • CIPS or equivalent experience (obtained or working towards)

  • Understanding of Vendigital/ERP system

  • Detail Essential Desirable

  • Problem solving and decision making

  • Planning and organising

  • Practice meaningful two-way communication with internal and external stakeholders

  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity about why things are the way they are; challenge the status quo
