A leading metal supplier is seeking an experienced Metallurgist to join their materials testing division in Sheffield. This business supports critical sectors such as aerospace, defence, motorsport, and energy by delivering specialist materials and technical support backed by rigorous in-house testing capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing technical team focused on materials integrity, customer assurance, and continuous innovation.

Key Responsibilities

As a Metallurgist, you will be responsible for the planning, execution, and analysis of a wide range of mechanical, metallurgical, and corrosion testing, including:

  • Tensile testing (ambient and elevated temperature)

  • Stress rupture and creep testing

  • Charpy impact testing (including sub-zero temperatures)

  • Hardness testing (Vickers, Rockwell, Brinell)

  • Ultrasonic testing (manual and immersion)

  • Dye penetrant inspection (DPI)

  • Magnetic particle inspection (MPI)

  • Microstructure examination

  • Grain size measurement

  • Ferrite content determination

  • Macro testing and cleanness evaluations

    What we need from you

    You will also be expected to:

  • Compile and interpret test data for technical reports

  • Work closely with quality, production, and R&D teams

  • Support compliance with NADCAP and other quality standards

  • Liaise directly with customers on technical requirements and investigations

    Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Degree-qualified in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field

  • Hands-on experience in both destructive and non-destructive testing

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO and NADCAP

  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and reporting skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
