Mechanical Design Engineer - Rocket Propulsion

A truly unique opportunity to join a world leading Rocket Propulsion Technology organisation!

We design, develop and manufacture solid propellant rocket motors for use in Defence & Security industry.

The successful candidate will be involved in projects from initial concept stage through to the issue of production drawings and work very closely with the Design Authority, Production Engineers and other Designers.

The design work involves pressure vessel design integrated with precision machined components in a wide variety of materials, both metallic and non-metallic, natural or synthetic.

Tooling design will include special purpose equipment used in all stages of the manufacture, assembly and testing of a solid propellant rocket motor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Mechanical Design Engineer

Creating and modifying 3D models using Creo 11
Producing detail production drawings ensuring conformance to BS8888 and manufacturability (using DFMA techniques)
Managing model and drawing data through Windchill 13
Drawing and design checking
Producing interface drawings with the relevant authorities
Modelling and reporting model mechanical properties
Liaison with the customer, manufacturers and suppliers, and on-site commissioning trial engineers (using DFMA techniques)
Reviewing/challenging design concepts
Concept meetings and design reviews - taking actions and ensure actions are completed on time
Active participation in DFMEA reviews
Managing your own workload to ensure OTD

Attention to detail is paramount whilst being able to work on multiple projects and an enthusiastic, inquisitive mind would be advantageous with an eagerness to learn. The candidate should have excellent design flair skills demonstrating new ways of thinking and having the confidence to challenge current methods/designs.

EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND - Mechanical Design Engineer

Working knowledge of Creo 11 or similar (SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, NX CAD, and Solid Edge)
Mechanical Engineering Degree
Working within a mechanical engineering environment
Design for Manufacture and Assembly techniques
Knowledge of a wide range of engineering materials and fasteners
Knowledge of national drafting standards BS 8888
Knowledge of Geometric tolerancing, limits and fits
