Are you an experienced Metallurgist looking for a role where your expertise genuinely matters?

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established and highly respected manufacturing business at a pivotal time, stepping into a senior technical leadership role with real influence across production, quality, and continuous improvement.

Working closely with an experienced team, this role offers the chance to make a lasting impact while developing and shaping metallurgical performance across the business.

If you enjoy combining technical expertise with hands-on leadership and want a role where no two days are the same — while benefiting from a stable days-based position with flexibility around working hours — this could be an outstanding next step.

The Opportunity

As Senior Metallurgist, you will take ownership of metallurgical quality, melting operations, laboratory performance, and process improvement activities across a busy manufacturing environment.

This is a highly visible role, combining approximately 60% office-based technical leadership and 40% shopfloor involvement, allowing you to stay close to production while influencing operational performance and quality standards.

You will play a key role in driving metallurgical excellence, reducing scrap, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring technical and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead metallurgical operations within an established iron/steel manufacturing environment

* Oversee melting and pouring processes, ensuring process control and product quality

* Provide technical leadership across laboratory, quality, and production teams

* Drive metallurgical investigations, root cause analysis, and technical reporting

* Support continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and operational efficiency projects

* Ensure compliance with quality standards including ISO 9001 and IATF requirements

* Promote a strong safety culture and support risk management activities

* Work closely with production and leadership teams to optimise materials and processes

You will ideally have:

* HNC/HND or Degree in Metallurgy, Metals Technology, Materials Science, or related discipline

* Strong technical understanding of metallurgical processes in iron or steel production

* Experience within a manufacturing or production-led environment

* The ability to lead, influence, and support technical and operational teams

* Strong analytical and reporting skills

What’s on Offer?

* Competitive salary

* 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (33 days total)

* Days-based role with flexibility around working hours

* Senior-level position with genuine long-term stability

* High level of autonomy and technical ownership

* Opportunity to influence quality, process improvements, and manufacturing performance

* Supportive, well-established manufacturing environment with long-term career prospects
