Reed Recruitment are delighted to be partnering withour client, an innovative and rapidly expanding manufacturer within the advanced composites sector, to recruit an experiencedPurchasing Manager.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business at an exciting stage of growth, transitioning from prototype development into higher-volume production. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have the autonomy to shape procurement strategy, strengthen supplier relationships and drive supply chain performance across the organisation.
The Role
You will lead the purchasing function, ensuring materials, goods and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively and on time. Working closely with Engineering, Production, Operations and Finance teams, you will play a critical role in maintaining stock availability, managing supplier performance and supporting continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimise cost, quality and delivery performance.
- Source, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers in the UK and internationally.
- Manage supplier contracts, pricing agreements and service levels.
- Ensure continuity of supply for both product development and production requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing quantities to maintain stock availability.
- Drive improvements across purchasing and logistics processes.
- Analyse market trends, supplier performance and supply chain risks.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
- Review and approve purchase orders and procurement requests.
- Collaborate with internal departments to forecast purchasing requirements.
- Produce procurement reports and KPI analysis.
- Lead, mentor and develop purchasing team members.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
- 5+ years' experience within Purchasing, Procurement or Supply Chain.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering or a technical environment.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Experience managing inventory and material planning.
- Knowledge of procurement best practice and supply chain processes.
- Experience using ERP, MRP or procurement systems.
- Advanced Excel and reporting skills.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Previous leadership or management experience.
- CIPS or related professional qualification would be advantageous.
