Full-Time
Derby or Bristol - Hybrid (3 days a week on site)

What you will be doing

We have exciting opportunities for Product System Design Engineers to join the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function team in Derby or Bristol.

The Product System Design Engineer will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements of the Product System environment in order to meet system level requirements and provide appropriate requirements to allow component level design. Preliminary component design is also a key requirement for the role along with integration of the design into the system level architecture.

The main focus of the role is the design and integration of composite components into the Fan Product System and the subsequent integration of the product system architecture at system level.

What you'll be doing:

As a Product System Design Engineer, you will support the Engine Project and the Product Design Function through:
Design of composite fan system architecture and components, mainly fan blades, fan cases and outlet guide vanes, to APQP preliminary design review level and integration support to critical design reviewWorking with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver a world-class compression system designGenerating innovative product system design concepts, using systems engineering techniques, to meet challenging customer requirementsConducting design studies to optimise technical attributes, e.g. cost, weight, performance, ensuring alignment with project, R&T and component engineering strategyPerforming product system design failure mode analysisFacilitating agreement of complex geometric and functional interfaces between stakeholdersWorking with Validation Engineering to define strategies for product system certification and / or standardisation of modificationsEliciting, validating and communication of product system requirements to appropriate stakeholders

Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, ideally in mechanical engineering, or equivalent experienceGood knowledge of low temperature composite materials and associated design tools and manufacturing methodsGood knowledge of gas turbine functionality particularly compression systems, AS9145/APQP or an equivalent change management process, failure mode analysis, safety processes such as hazard identification, classification and closure managementGood knowledge of materials, manufacturing and assembly techniquesGood communication, inter-personal and presentation skillsCAD experience, preferably NX and TeamcenterKnowledge of analysis methods is desirable, e.g. mechanical stress, impact, aerodynamics or aero-mechanicsKnowledge of model based systems engineering is desirableProven track record of delivery and at least 3 years of composite component design experience within the aerospace industry or equivalent
