SRG are delighted to be working with an innovative diagnostics organistion based in Scotland's Central belt as they look for a microfluidics engineer to support their product development function.

The Role

As Microfluidics Engineer you will be responsible for the design and development of microfluidic architectures using CAD. You will then utilise computational fluid dynamics simulations to optimise fluid flow. Working alongside a scientific team you will automate assay development workflow designing prototypes for testing. You will adapt designs for high-volume injection moulding which will include managing draft angles, wall thickness and tool inserts.

In summary this role will focus on translating early-stage prototype concepts into scalable, manufacturable products using advanced polymer processing and microfabrication techniques. Working within a multidisciplinary R&D environment, the successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and validation of high-performance disposable cartridges and consumables for diagnostic applications.

The Right Person

  • Deep, demonstrable understanding of injection moulding, including tool cooling and the impact of moulding parameters
  • Experience with metrology tools such as SEM
  • Knowledge of surface modification techniques
  • Expert-level knowledge in microfluidic flow systems
  • Demonstrable proficiency with CAD, or similar software
  • Relevant qualification (Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, etc.)
  • Prior experience in the IVD or medical device industry, ideally with experience working on plastic consumables.

Where to Advertise Materials Science Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise materials science jobs UK in 2026: specialist boards, academic channels and societies that reach physicists, chemists and metallurgists. The candidate pool spans physicists, chemists, metallurgists, ceramicists, polymer scientists and computational materials researchers — a highly multidisciplinary community with distinct professional identities, academic networks and job search behaviours. The strongest candidates are typically embedded in university research groups, national laboratories, government-funded programmes or deep tech R&D teams, and move between roles through specialist academic channels, professional societies and sector-specific networks rather than mainstream job boards. This guide, published by MaterialsScienceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise materials science roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
