The Opportunity:

A leading manufacturer and innovator within the fire protection industry is seeking a practical, hands-on Testing Engineer to join its growing Research & Development team in Harlow.This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer, technician, test engineer, workshop engineer, or manufacturing professional who enjoys working in a varied technical environment.

The role combines product testing, workshop activities, problem-solving, and support for new product development projects. The role will also involve completing of documentation, administrative tasks and further operational needs. You will play a key role in preparing and conducting fire testing programmes, supporting the development of innovative products, and ensuring testing activities are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The position also offers occasional UK and international travel to customer sites and testing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare test specimens, assemblies, and installations for fire testing programmes.
• Carry out practical workshop activities, including sheet metal fabrication, assembly, and ductwork preparation.
• Support internal and external fire testing and product development projects.
• Assist with test execution, monitoring, data gathering, and analysis.
• Produce technical documentation and support test reporting activities.
• Interpret technical drawings, standards, procedures, and specifications.
• Contribute practical engineering knowledge and ideas to ongoing R&D projects.
• Assist with the organisation and coordination of testing activities and materials.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the testing and development team.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Previous experience within an engineering, manufacturing, technical testing, or product development environment.
• Strong practical, hands-on engineering or mechanical aptitude.
• Experience interpreting technical documentation, procedures, engineering drawings, or industry standards.
• Experience operating sheet metal machinery or fabrication equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Desirable Experience:

• Knowledge of ductwork, HVAC systems, fire protection, insulation products, or ventilation systems.
• Previous experience supporting product testing or R&D activities.
• Familiarity with fire testing standards or regulatory testing environments.
