Outside IR35,

requires

100% onsite
Role Description
The Materials Engineer role reports to Manufacturing and Supply Chain Manager. The Materials Engineer will be responsible for the selection, characterisation, testing and qualification of a range of materials used in our technology to ensure our materials meet the mechanical, thermal and lifing requirements.
The Materials Engineer role scope will cover all the Materials used to manufacture components within Roto Dynamic Heater (RDH) and Roto Dynamic Reactor (RDR) turbomachinery products. The Materials range from austenitic steels to aerospace grade nimonics, with some components also requiring brazing and coatings.
The specific Materials Engineer accountabilities will be determined by the experience of the successful candidate, with the candidate supporting a wide range of tasks, from justifying material selections during Product Design, to supporting manufacturing method development validation activities. Therefore, an ideal candidate would have rounded experience of working with materials used to manufacture one or more commodities such as Rotors, Casings, Aerofoils, Fabrications or Assembly of Turbomachinery.
As a result of the novel product development, there will be heavy emphasis on:
Product Introduction

supporting designers with materials knowledge for new designs, using materials data to feed into Design Studies to ensure components meet their intended life.
Materials Development

understanding design requirements for new components and work with third parties to develop materials data for next generation components in order to achieve the required life of the component.
Manufacturing and Supply Chain support:
Work with Suppliers to develop and optimise their manufacturing techniques for a range of processes and components (e.g. heat treatment and surface coatings) to ensure their components achieve the required condition of supply
Work with suppliers to validate their Manufacturing Method (have experience).
Support will also be required for analysing and reviewing any material defects or anomalies.
Help with problem resolution should any manufacturing anomalies occur
Documentation and Reporting

prepare technical reports and specifications related to materials testing and production inspection.
It is essential that the successful candidate can build strong working relationships with cross functional teams to align the Materials and Manufacturing activities with broader organisational goals and communicate effectively with all key stakeholders.
What Youll Bring
Degree in Materials Engineering or suitable industry experience.
Minimum of 5 years experience in Materials Engineering (or relevant discipline) in a relevant industry.
Strong technical knowledge, including experience of turbomachinery.
An ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive improvements and resolve manufacturing & product issues.
Strong problem solver with a proven ability to analyse complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Happy to be flexible and willing to work on a variety of tasks, sometimes outside the natural lane of a Materials Engineer.
Personal attributes
A credible, trustworthy individual who is happy to share their knowledge but can also take
reasonable challenge.
A self-starter, well-connected and somebody who can think on their feet.
Highly motivated, resilient, assertive and process / data driven.
Effective communication skills.
Team Player with an ability to develop good working relationships quickly.

Where to Advertise Materials Science Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise materials science jobs UK in 2026: specialist boards, academic channels and societies that reach physicists, chemists and metallurgists. The candidate pool spans physicists, chemists, metallurgists, ceramicists, polymer scientists and computational materials researchers — a highly multidisciplinary community with distinct professional identities, academic networks and job search behaviours. The strongest candidates are typically embedded in university research groups, national laboratories, government-funded programmes or deep tech R&D teams, and move between roles through specialist academic channels, professional societies and sector-specific networks rather than mainstream job boards. This guide, published by MaterialsScienceJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise materials science roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
