Location: Chorley
Salary: £28,000 per annum
Contract: 12 Week Temporary to Permanent Opportunity
Hours: Full Time

Shift Pattern

Following an initial training period, you will work a rotating shift pattern:

  • Monday to Friday: 06:00 - 14:00
  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 16:00
  • Monday to Thursday: 14:00 - 22:00
  • Friday: 12:00 - 20:00
About the Role

We are currently recruiting for aQuality Control (QC) Assistant to join a busy and modern materials testing laboratory.

This is an excellent opportunity for either a recentA-Level Science student looking to begin a career within Quality Control and laboratory testing, or an individual with previous laboratory experience gained within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, chemical, pharmaceutical, or production environment.

Working as part of an experienced and supportive team, you will be responsible for carrying out routine quality control testing on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure they meet the required quality standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Control Testing
  • Carry out routine quality control testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Prepare samples and materials for laboratory testing.
  • Perform physical and analytical testing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct viscosity testing, dimensional measurements, and other product quality assessments.
  • Operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively following training.
  • Record, analyse, and report test results accurately.
  • Identify and escalate any non-conforming or out-of-specification results.
  • Support product release activities by ensuring all testing requirements are completed.
Laboratory Support
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Ensure samples are correctly labelled, stored, and handled.
  • Assist with equipment checks, calibration activities, and routine maintenance.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness, and organisation within the laboratory.
  • Support stock control of laboratory consumables and materials.
  • Follow all quality, health & safety, and laboratory procedures.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with investigations relating to product quality issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Quality, Production, and Technical teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • A-Level qualifications in a Science subject (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Applied Science or similar)or previous laboratory experience within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, chemical, pharmaceutical, or production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and confidence working with data.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts following completion of training.
Desirable
  • Previous Quality Control (QC) or laboratory experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience using testing or analytical equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials testing, viscosity testing, dimensional measurement, GC, DSC, or similar testing techniques.
  • Scientific qualifications beyond A-Level standard.
