Winsearch is working with a leading Coventry-based composites manufacturer (Armstrong Group) to recruit a Storeman/Kit Cutter for their Bayton Road facility. In this key role you’ll ensure the smooth daily operation of the stores area, supporting production targets in a high-tech automotive, aerospace and motorsport environment. Our client stands at the forefront of metal and composite component manufacturing, and this permanent position offers the chance to grow your career in an innovative, Lean-driven setting.

Key Responsibilities

Stores operations: Oversee day-to-day running of the stores area, following all procedures and 5S standards. Ensure materials and kit components are stored safely, cleanly and in the right location.

Stock management: Manage inventory control, including part identification, batch coding and FIFO rotation to meet production schedules. Use stock systems (e.g. Sage 200 ERP) to record movements and maintain accurate stock levels

Kit cutting (ZÜND): Operate the ZÜND digital cutting system to prepare material kits and templates. (ZÜND cutters provide automated, precise digital cutting of composite materials.)

Template and kit fabrication: Manufacture cutting templates and component kits to specifications, ensuring parts are labelled and kitted correctly for lamination or fitting.

Autoclave handling: Load, unload and monitor the autoclave curing process for composite parts, working safely under heat and pressure. Assist with breakout (de-moulding) of cured components as required.

Production support: Liaise with the production team to help meet delivery targets. Assist operators by providing kits and materials on schedule, and help resolve any material or tooling issues.

Continuous improvement: Actively participate in 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives, suggesting improvements to optimise workspace, reduce waste and improve efficiency across the store and shop floor.

Candidate Profile

We’re looking for a motivated team player with strong organisational skills and a can-do attitude. To be successful you will have:

Composites experience: At least 2 years’ hands-on experience in composite manufacturing (e.g. as a laminator or composites fitter). You understand prepreg, vacuum-bagging and trimming processes.

ZÜND expertise: Proven experience operating ZÜND (or similar digital cutting) equipment to create templates and kits. You can load files, change blades/tools and troubleshoot basic machine issues.

Autoclave experience: Familiarity with autoclave curing processes is essential – you know how to bag parts, set up an autoclave run and safely handle hot molds and cured components.

Inventory knowledge: Solid stock control skills, ideally using an ERP or inventory system (experience with Sage 200 is a strong advantage). You’re comfortable with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Excel, Teams) and may have used integrated systems like Sage 200 that “connects with Microsoft 365”

Personal skills: Highly organised and proactive, you prioritise tasks effectively under minimal supervision. A strong team ethic and excellent communication are key – you’ll coordinate with production, quality and logistics colleagues.

Safety focus: You have a high awareness of Health & Safety and work practices. You ensure compliance with safety procedures at all times, and contribute to maintaining a clean, hazard-free environment (part of our 5S/Lean culture)

Why Join Us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable, growing company in a cutting-edge sector. You will work with advanced materials and technology, learn new skills (e.g. advanced cutting and manufacturing processes) and help deliver world-class components to top automotive, aerospace and motorsport clients. The role is permanent and based at Bayton Road (Coventry), offering a competitive salary and the chance to develop your career on site.

If you’re a reliable, hands-on professional with composites experience and an eye for detail, we want to hear from you.

Materials Science Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK materials science hiring has shifted from title‑led CV screens to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise characterisation with clear conclusions, scale‑up to pilot/production, standards compliance (ASTM/ISO/IATF/AS9100), sustainability/ESG, data literacy & measurable product or yield improvements. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for battery/materials engineers, polymer/composites specialists, metallurgists, ceramics/glass scientists, surface/thin‑film engineers, failure analysts, process/quality engineers & materials informatics roles. Who this is for: Materials scientists & engineers (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, semiconductors, thin films, coatings), process/scale‑up & manufacturing engineers, CMC in materials for life sciences, QA/QC, failure analysis, test & characterisation, sustainability/LCAs, and materials informatics/data roles in the UK.

Why Materials Science Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Materials science has always been an interdisciplinary field, sitting at the crossroads of physics, chemistry & engineering. But in the UK today, as the demand for sustainable technologies, advanced composites & biomedical innovations grows, materials science careers are becoming even more multidisciplinary. Employers are now looking beyond technical expertise. Success in modern materials roles increasingly requires awareness of law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. These five areas shape how new materials are researched, applied, communicated and trusted in society. This article explores why materials science careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how these fields intersect with scientific practice, and what job-seekers & employers should do to adapt.

Materials Science Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Materials Science Department
