An innovative engineering firm based in the South West is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical or Automation Systems Engineer to support the development of high-performance robotic and automated manufacturing systems. The Role
As an Electro-Mechanical/Automation Systems Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in conceptualising and developing cutting-edge automation and robotic systems. This position involves working cross-functionally to define technical requirements, document system designs, perform testing, and support the full product development lifecycle—from concept through to commissioning. You’ll also be responsible for producing clear, comprehensive technical and user documentation to accompany bespoke systems.

Key Responsibilities



Develop system-level concepts for automated handling, inspection, assembly, and manufacturing equipment.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated automation solutions.

*

Translate design ideas into formalised concepts, diagrams, and documentation.

*

Conduct system testing and analysis to ensure optimal performance and functionality.

*

Create and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, process flows, and system specifications.

*

Contribute to project proposals, including customer site visits and feasibility assessments.

*

Provide input and mentoring across engineering functions to promote best practices.

*

Support R&D and internal system development initiatives.

*

Ensure compliance with internal procedures and quality standards throughout project execution.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential Experience & Skills:

*

Minimum 5 years' experience in engineering design or automation system development.

*

Track record of delivering projects from concept to final commissioning.

*

Skilled in requirements definition, structured system design, and testing methodologies.

*

Proficient in producing high-quality technical documentation (manuals, reports, specifications).

*

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

*

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

*

Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and automation technologies.

*

Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Desirable Expertise:

*

Experience with industrial robotics and PLC-controlled systems.

*

Knowledge of SolidWorks and/or CAD software.

*

Background in vision systems (2D/3D) and automation control.

*

Experience with software integration (C# preferred).

*

Familiarity with electrical control systems and fibre-reinforced composite materials.

*

Understanding of ISO standards and documentation compliance.

Education:
Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering
