Mechanical Design Engineer – Outside IR35

Location: Coventry
Rate: £32-35 per hour
Job Type: Contract, 6+ months (outside IR35)

Your Role: What You’ll Do

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
✔️ Support the Lead Engineer in delivering high-quality projects and product designs.
✔️ Create 3D models and detailed drawings using Creo 6.0 or higher.
✔️ Utilise PLM software, ideally Windchill.
✔️ Manage Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD models, and technical drawings with precision.
✔️ Engineer components & assemblies to meet cost, weight, and strength requirements.
✔️ Ensure material selection meets performance and cost-effectiveness targets.
✔️ Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly Feasibility (DFA), ensuring smooth production.
✔️ Work within ISO9001 & ISO14001 standards to maintain engineering excellence.
✔️ Collaborate cross-functionally, working with manufacturing and production teams.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

🔹 Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
🔹 Experience in Automotive, Aerospace, or Defence Engineering environments.
🔹 Expertise in 3D CAD modelling & engineering drawings (Creo/SolidWorks preferred).
🔹 Understanding of manufacturing techniques: welding, machining, composites, fabrication.
🔹 Material selection knowledge to balance performance and cost.
🔹 Structural performance assessment & analysis techniques experience.
🔹 Hands-on engineering & workshop theory experience.
